The cost of running a police force includes supplies, training, weapons, ammunition, protective gear, health care , and retirement pension benefits. Yet, one solemnly mentioned cost is that of litigation and settlement payouts resulting from police misconduct. According to the City’s controller Office, New York City paid out a sum total of $247.l million dollars to resolve claims resulting from civil rights violations , and police misconduct.
