A Brief History of Counterfeit $100 Bills

June 20, 2021 By Contributor

US paper money is made of cloth rather than paper. It is a blend of 75% cotton, 25% linen, and a handful full of red and blue security fibers woven randomly throughout the bill. American bills have a unique feel which can’t be replicated using any other material. Creating replica banknotes is cost restrictive. One of the most successful historical attempts was done by North Korea. In 1990 Kim ll-Sung sourced an intaglio printing press from Japan for the purpose of fraudulently printing $100 U.S Bills. They were called Supernotes given the superior quality of the bills. And The fact that the Bills were too perfect was used as a way of identifying the fact the bills were fake.
